Sustainable development goals in detail - Part II
In the last newsletter we discussed the 17 global sustainability goals developed by the UN to meet and achieve climate change targets. The Smart Waste Solutions from the Hailo digital_hub contribute directly and indirectly to 14 of these 17 goals and actively support them. In this short overview, we show how our Smart Waste Solutions contribute to achieving these goals.
Sustainable Development Goal 03: Health and Well-Being
Health and well-being are directly linked to the environment and our immediate surroundings. To escape the stress of everyday life, find relaxation and promote health rehabilitation, people retreat to nature or to environments where they feel comfortable. It has been proven that a clean environment - free of obvious waste and litter - provides people with a higher recreational and rehabilitation value. With Smart Waste Solutions, we help create awareness of waste and its volume, and identify data-based opportunities for waste reduction. As a result, less waste is generated and released into the environment.
Sustainable Development Goal 04: High-quality education
Ignorance is a common reason for not taking action or using something consciously. Particularly in the area of waste management, there is often a lack of knowledge or awareness of the impact and damage caused by waste. Only what is known can be optimised, so our Smart Waste Solutions help to raise awareness through data-based indicators. Knowledge of waste volumes and types can be used to develop new approaches to reducing, preventing and responsibly managing waste. Figures, data and facts also inspire further research and process activities that lead to further sustainability knowledge.
Sustainable Development Goal 06: Clean water and sanitation
Waste that enters water bodies as a result of improper disposal, e.g. through sewers or deliberate dumping, leads to contamination, wastewater pollution, and health and ecological damage. Excessive and often unnecessary disposal of valuable raw materials through landfill or thermal recycling can also cause serious water pollution. Smart waste solutions and data-driven metrics, as well as the ability to separate waste, are used to collect and recycle valuable resources without contaminating groundwater or surface water and without the need for costly reprocessing. In this way, Smart Waste Solutions help to safeguard and improve water quality while securing waste as an important resource.
